Anyone know what this plant is? It is very happily growing in a shaded area under trees in upstate New York. Mystery plant-HUGE summer 2010.jpg

Thank you. It does indeed look like Inula Magnifica according to what I found on Google. Not so sure about fleabane, though. Fleabane is Erigeron philadelphicus, in the asteraceae family, but a different plant.
Leaves 3 ft in length !!! That describes my plant. Thanks again.

Fleabane is used for several related genera in the family; for precision, Inula magnifica is Giant Fleabane, while Erigeron philadelphicus is Philadelphia Fleabane.

Also worth comparing with Telekia speciosa, another close relative. Some info on distinguishing it from Inula spp. here (need to look at the shape of the basal leaves).

Thanks for that clarification. And now I am believing that, in fact, I have Telekia speciosa.
