I have no idea what this is. I'm not sure if I planted it at some point or if it just appeared. I think it just appeared. There is also a second one a few inches away, but it's much smaller. It is about 6" high, currently in morning sun but shade the rest of the day. It also appeared last year, but I don't think it bloomed. There are evening primroses and a columbine around it. Oh, and I'm in South Central Pennsylvania, right on the Mason-Dixon line. Help?
It looks like Mertensia, possibly M. pulmonarioides. Common name Virginia cowslip. I think you can just see the flower buds in your pic. See... http://images.google.com/images?hl=...esult&cd=1&q=mertensia+pulmonarioides&spell=1
