Good Day, I hope I can get some much needed help on a plant I have in my front garden. It was planted when we bought the house. So far and to date not one person can tell what it is. I'm about to run a contest, Name that Plant, I still have to work on a prize!

So this is the info I have on it to the best I can give.

Eastern exposure, full sun until late afternoon, about 2/3 in height, very aggressive grower easily rooted and replanted, Hummers come to it as with Bees many of them, Has a nice smell to it, just can't pin point what the smell is but it is nice. Flowers seem to come from a cone of sorts, first thought this was a prickly kind of thing but this is rather soft to touch. Flowers are a bluish to purple color. Does well in hot weather and little watering. It grows over all other plants so I had to put it on a trillus and carefully tack it on to this using twine, since I don't no what this plant is I didn't want to cut it back in case this would do damage. The leaves have started to change with Fall coming.

This is about all the info I can give. I am very new to Gardening and to my delight going very well. Most people never let me near their plants since each time I did their plants did poorly, I kid you not! Living at our cottage was perfect for me with this right on the Canadian shield, all rock beautiful rock at that and wild plants growing all over not needing any care. Well there is one very small garden bye the Well which was my husbands mother's garden, Lily of the Valley and Crocus plants. I keep this going for her and him.

So I hope with attaching a photo someone can help me. I have asked so many people, garden centers online etc..my friends and family not one soul can help me. All summer I have tried to find out what this is. Can you believe that? Surprised me that is for sure.

I find I am hooked on Gardening now and plan to extend this front garden into a rock garden, I can grow rocks just fine! Over the winter I will be doing some research about what to plant which any help would be good. This is another topic for another time.

Hope someone can help me with this before it drives me crazy. I do have other photos of this plant if needed. Thanks for any help even just a bit.

    Have a great day....

Definitely Lamiaceae (or mint family). Strongly resembles Monarda - a second photograph from the side would be helpful, so one can get a better idea of the flowering head of the plant.

Looks like Monadra "bee balm" - the scent should be sweet and slightly spicy (like basil, but not quite) if this is the case. I'd agree with Daniel; a profile photo will help narrow it down....

Well, the second photo eliminates most Monarda species. I might have some time later today to tackle it with the new info.

The leaves, the top, and the way the flowers come out -- the new and the old -- it sure looks like a Nepeta to me -- I don't know which one, but if you look at a good picture of a subsessilis, you can see what I mean.
