I have had this plant for over 20 years. When I received it I vaguely remember a tag that said it was from Australia. The photos show the thickened stem and the leaves which show two distinct shapes. Does anyone know the name of this interesting plant?

Hi Tony. Thanks for identifying this plant for me. I have tried to propagate this plant, but have not been successful to date. Do you happen to know how I might propagate it? Thanks so much.

    Hello Tony,
I have researched this plant and have found out how to propagate it. I did try cuttings but they didn't take so I will try again using rooting hormone.

Normally it's grown from seed, which should be reasonably fresh, and apparently quite large saplings can be transplanted if top and root are both truncated.

I don't know about chances of success with cuttings, though most members of the family can be grown that way.

Considering the strange shape of your plant, if you were really feeling adventurous you might try splitting that short thick stem into 2 or more plants, after checking first that each piece had part of the root system. But that might be risky.
