    Hello,

I was wondering if anyone has any idea what this little beauty is - a burgeoning tree perhaps? It's a volunteer in rural area.

    Thanks,
    Lizzy

    Maybe some kind of amaranth?

Thank you. I suppose it could be. I guess I'll wait until next year to find out, if it survives.

Amaranths are usually annual plants, but may reseed themselves.

Thanks. Someone's garden escapee, obviously. And completely unexpected.

There are few listed either native or introduced weeds for BC. Some are shown as native for US but introduced for Canada (Click "Subordinate taxa" on this page: http://plants.usda.gov/core/profile?symbol=AMARA). This one may be one of A. blitum/hybridus/powellii/retroflexus.

Very interesting! It's located on Whidbey Island in Washington state. I'm afraid that with the way the weather is heading the plant will be dead before long. But I really appreciate knowing what it might be. (And that it is yet another volunteer that is classified as an undesirable weed. I've pulled so many this year).
