I repotted my peacelilly a few months ago and now a mushroom like growth has shown up in the pot. Is this poisonous as I have pet birds that scavenge around my plants.

I can't say whether the mushrooms are bad for your birds or not, but I don't think I'd take any chances. Spores can be found in un-sterilized soil, or they came in another way, wind, clothes, etc.
Mushrooms love moist soil, so the conditions were just right for it to pop up. Letting the top inch dry down a little can help.
They can easily be pulled out without much effort, better yet, you can scoop out a few inches down of the soil to get rid of any other spores that might grow, then replace with new "sterilized" soil, a little less water.

Thank you, now I know "dollar store" soil is not a good thing to buy.
