Hello! This lovely dogwood tree is growing out of my Astilbes, right next to a Serviceberry shrub. The leaves are opposite, and VERY deeply veined. The leaf edges are red, and it's not the effect of burning. At first I thought 'pagoda' but nothing I've seen has the same rounded leaves and deep veins, or red colouration. The red was there last year, too. It hasn't produced flowers, so they're no clue. (The little white flower is from the Serviceberry).

    Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

Hi Paul, It has one stalk, like a tree, not a shrub. Do you know any viburnums like that?

This looks like a young Pagoda Dogwood ( Cornus Alternifolia ) . Its native and worth keeping .... it has white flowers in the Spring followed by blue-burgandy berries .

Wouldn't be a Cornus alternifolia as the leaves are opposite, not alternate.
