Help! My indoor potted philodendron is growing a forest of small white/pale yellow mushrooms in the soil at the base of the plant. The plant is not suffering...yet, although the little mushrooms are disturbing. What should I do to fix this problem, and are the mushrooms harmful to pets and humans?
I think the best thing to do is re-pot your plant. Make sure you shake as much of the old soil off as possible or you will just be transplanting mushroom spores with it. Sounds like you have been keeping the soil too moist.
There's a small yellow mushroom that frequently shows up in potted plants. It's name is Lepiota lutea. It also appears to have been one of Tom Volks featured "Mushroom Of The Month". You'll find this quite interesting, I'm sure.
are you sure it is not little dicolored balls that were from the potting soil .. perlite i think is what it is called .. or sometimes they put in slow release fertilizers that sometimes looke like lil mushrooms .. are you able to post a pic of it ?? Marn
