Hey all, I've had a wonderful Japanese Peace Lily for a little over a year now. In the fall it stopped growing flowers, which I took to be seasonal, and now it seems to be withering, but not totally dying. There could be a number of reasons why - I recently repotted it into a larger pot, I've also been watering/misting it a little more often (every two days or so), also, about two weeks ago I used some miracle grow plant food, but have since stopped. I'm hoping to get a few pointers on how I can better treat this beautiful plant and get it back to its normal self! Thanks! (Also, sorry the picture is really a low quality/wrong angle...)
Growers sometimes use hormones to get plants blooming profusely for sale. Your plant may need more water, and brighter light. Here is excellent information on how to keep your Spathiphyllum growing well: http://www.exoticrainforest.com/Spathiphyllum Clevelandii pc.htm Welcome to the Forum!
Get it out of that huge pot! Houseplants like to be cozy (not too cozy though) in their potted homes. The peace lily is a low effort plant. If you are having issues (as in the photo) it's due to either; the potted situation, the water, food or light (although this one tolerates low light!) I have had good luck with several of these plants, so I feel confident giving advice on this one. I have divided them, given them away, and brought them back from the brink. What I know; they do not like to be overwatered, which is likely why it looks so stressed. They like to dry out a bit. Feed them, and they will bloom. As far as I know, there is no 'season' for this guy. They will barely survive if they are plopped into a too-large pot. Here is a brief run-down on re-potting tropicals. http://houseplants.about.com/od/pottingandrepotting/a/Repotting.htm Good Luck!
