Identification: My mom wants to know

    What are these plants in this mixed planter for my mom?

    The green plant in the first photo is probably Selaginella. I tried to grow Selaginella twice and both times it died. Hard water, maybe.
    The second photo shows a fern, probably, Adiantum capillus-veneris, but I am not sure if there are some similar species that may fit.

    The element is aluminium, but in North America we call the metal aluminum.
