Can anyone tell me what plant this is ASAP? My dog ate it yesterday and isn't feeling well. Thanks so much! Renee
Joclyn's right on the id. It's Ledebouria socialis. You might want to call your vet if your dog isn't feeling well. Sometimes toxic plants can just upset the tummy some, but i'd still call anyway to be sure,
Let us know what the outcome is Honey434, please! As a dog lover I would love to know your pooch was okay after this. Here's wishing it a speedy recovery.
The members of Dave's Garden have listed it as poisonous, leading to liver failure in a cat. I'm not finding anything else on it being poisonous, other than an old thread here with togata asking if it's poisonous.
Hi Everyone, Thank you all so very much! What an amazing and generous response to my question. I did tentatively ID the plant as ledebouria after going through an extensive online houseplant catalog. Slowly throughout the day yesterday Honey seemed to be feeling better, and we think today she's good. We've had her almost 10 years and she's never touched a houseplant. It was a scary event, but made better by your help and concern. Here are pictures of my friend...I painted the one on the right. Heartfelt thanks from us all, Renee, Bill & Honey
renee, i'm glad honey is doing okay!! i'd still keep a close eye on her for a few days - and move the plant out of her reach...which you probably already did do... she's a beauty!! i've always loved goldens!
Lovely painting, Renee, and you have a beautiful dog, too. Very glad to hear your pup is on the mend.
Thanks so much, thanrose. My husband and I are both artists and we made 2 small ponds and some lovely garden spaces so we could paint them. We know a bit more about outside plants than indoor plants! Are you a rose fan? We can only grow a few because of the shade in our garden. Apricot Nectar is my favorite.
Thanks so much! Love the bluebird...my friend has them in her backyard. Can't wait to see them again.
For what its worth: If your dog is making signs of throwing up, or wanting to but can't bring up anything, a big bowl of cornflakes will help keep him or her from eating green things. Keep him close to the newspaper though. Carl
Thanks Carl! Thankfully, she seems to be over her illness. But I'll remember the cornflakes! Many thanks, Renee
