I got this cactus for Valentine's day last year. I forgot to water it for a while and then gave it a bunch when I remembered. It was a yellow ball with thorns on top of a green stem. My husband bought it from Menards. The ball has mostly turned brown where it was yellow (a little bit is still yellow) and the stem is squishy and turned a brown/greenish color as well. Is there anything I can do to save it? Thank You for your help!
It may be to late, but you can try placing it in a warm sunny spot and dont water for a month. it may come back. Cacti can be funny and once they start to die they can be extremely hard to save. hope this helps.
It is a cactus without chlorophyll (could be Echinopsis or possibly Gymnocalycium) grafted on top of another cactus (most likely Hylocereus undatus). The bottom part has rotted and it has spread to the grafted plant too. Nothing to do, throw it out. Hylocereus are touchy, they rot easily if watered when the temperature is low. Unfortunately they are easy to graft on, root easily and grow very fast, so they are the most used when mass-producing grafted cacti.
