Hello everyone, not sure how to put this, but I think my Cactus is dying. I have had it for as long as I can remeber.

It was left outside in the cold overnight through a freak snowstorm/freezing rain.
It is now leaking fluid and it smells bad, it has formed these brown/black spots on it. I have some pictures, I hope someone can help me, what can I do!! I have attached some photos, please advise.

If the top is still firm and alive, then you can cut it off (making very sure to get all the squishy bits off) let the wet end dry for 2-3 weeks then plant it in sand soil. Wait, wait, and wait again before watering it: likely mid spring. It needs to put out new roots from the cut before watering it or the water will just make it rot again.

Do not use wather. You can put some little rocks above the soil and those rocks will sweat assureing the necesary quantity of wather.

So from the pictures, is it dying in this shape? or will it pull through?

heres mine i nearly killed with miticide last year.
just keep it dry, and chop it up if you want, but it wont be nessisary.
the black oozing pustules will scar the dermis beyond regognition, but they usually heal if allowed too.
    just watch for serious rot.

the pics im putting up start in july, the last one is from today.

    see, there is hope.

    Thanks!!

Ok so to sum up what I should do, please correct me if I am wrong.

Leave it be, dont clean the puss?
Keep it warm? If possible how warm? as in by the windor warm with sunlight? or in a really high temperature room?
Oh it is in damp dirt, should I move it to a dryer pot?
Should I feed it any sort of cactus food (if there is any?)
Any way to stop it from rotting?
Any steps that you feel I should do to help it recover?

Thanks for the information!!! and the help!

Stop watering it. If you don't plant to cut it then leave it be until you see some new growth in spring. Water is the problem so let it totally dry out until the day length increases. Room temp is warm enough.

One more question, well probably not, the fluid is leaking out of these holes, should i try and seal the holes? sorta plug them with something?

I wouldn't thinks so. I can't imagine what you could use, even if you needed too.

Honestly, just leave it be until spring and hope for the best.

sealing any part of the cactus up it the last thing you want to do. that puppy needs as much air as it can get.

    Hi All,

Leaving the Cactus as it was seems to have been a mistake, I do believe it is on its final legs. I am gonna try the Cutting of a part that seems ok and dry it out and try to replant it. However I am not sure how to do this, are there any good websites showing me how do this operation?

    Thanks
