    Well, ya know . . . much as I'm a great supporter of scientific evidence, I'm skeptical about this umami theory. It sounds like that 'the whole is greater than the sum of its parts' idea promulgated by Aristotle some 2400 years ago - but it's not.

    I'm just thinking: eggs are delicious; bacon is delicious; why wouldn't both together be even more delicious? It's not so much about synergy and nucleotides and glutomates . . . it's just logic in my opinion. Add one or more - pancakes, hashed browns, sauteed tomatoes, caramelized onions, buttered toast and a glass of juice or a hot cup of tea or coffee - there are some things science cannot describe and maybe shouldn't bother trying.
