Greetings all, Marvellous walk through the UBC Bot Gardens today, beautiful regardless of the windstorm damage. Kreschmeria deusta (formerly known as Ustulina deusta) was looking burbling-lava happy and widespread on logs and stumps, and Entoloma/Nolanea sp. either N. verna or N. holoconiota looking large and healthy. Found Agrocybe praecox in bunches in landscaping in the vicinity, but not in the gardens proper. Some lovely fresh Ganoderma applanatum on the habitat stump/trees, as well as Fomitopsis pinicola on a few logs. ... Lately we seem to be inbetween fruiting flushes, presumably due to odd weather patterns: Earlier this season there were more mushrooms about. cheers, frog
Frog, I am glad to hear the fungal news from Vancouver. So how about some photos of these beauties? Had not heard about windstorm---hope that it was not too bad.
Sorry Togata, I've access to a camera, but rarely think to bring it - Will try to remember next outing or foray. Windstorm was rough on some folks, power out to much of Vancouver Island, ferries could not run on Good Friday, trees hit powerlines and a few houses. But I don't think anyone's been hurt. I noticed some of the news footage focussed on the bases of a few trees that went down: The heavy fungal colonization was clearly visible! cheers, -frog
Ha! Your last comment made me laugh. I can relate! News story on TV? Yeah, OK---but what's that PLANT in the background? ---I was recently glued to an ancient episode of 'I Spy', not from any Robert Culp (may he R.I.P.) or Bill Cosby fascination, but because of a gigantic, beautiful Philodendron selloum behind them. Good that noone was hurt! I will see if I can look up your fungal finds.
