Can someone help me (newbie) ID these two mushrooms I found in the yard?

#1 was in the lawn, white, solid stem, brown gills. About 1.5" across. Turning to tan as it nears the end of its life.

#2 was on the edge of a flowerbed. Brown cap with stryations (sp?) radiating outward from the center and "pithy" stem. Gills go down the stem a bit. Could see the Mysilium (sp?) it's brown and on the surface of the dirt, sort of a "sheet". I put fish compost on the bed this spring, and there is regular compost on the site as well. There is a large one about 4" across. If it was on a log I would think it was a shitake (have cultivated some on logs a few years ago)

I am attempting to take a spore print, I'll keep you posted.

    Thanks!

Looks like you hit the second one on the head...the spore print is a lovely golden brown and certainly matches other photos I saw on the Net.

And the first one is certain enough to try them for edibility. I will make sure I get my neighbours to try some on their next BBQ, so I can see if they have an adverse effect... ;o)

First one might be a Coprinus
