Nuts to do an uphill hike near Squamish, BC this afternoon when it's 31 degrees C but at least there were few other nutters about. On the way took a few snaps of a mushroom I couldn't identify ... thanks!

The mushroom is difficult to identify without a good colour picture of the top of the cap. There are several red stemmed Boletes that it could be. The most common one is Boletus zelleri, but its cap is very dark. Xerocomellus chrysenteron and X. truncatus are a couple of others.

That's not the colour I expected; so none of my original suggestions are appropriate. The only Bolete that is close (using the Matchmaker program) is Boletus smithii, which is a BC mushroom that I'm not familiar with.
