Hello All! First time to post but I've been reading your posts for the past year. Thank you all for so much information. My family moved to the outside edge of town to an older home with a very established yard with flowerbeds, etc. Things I had no idea of how to care for or maintain. I found wonderfully helpful information here about caring for the wild mass of 10 or so muscadine plants growing the entire length of our fence in the backyard. Luckily my grandmother knew what they were or I probably would have cut them down..... We bought the property in the middle of winter so I severely pruned the vines back to the main stalk/runners and then they grew like crazy over the spring/summer. I am proud to report monsterous amounts of fruit which my grandmother has turned into so much jelly that I've had to begin giving it away to relatives and friends because there is no way I will ever use this much over the next year..(and I have 2 teens and a 6 year old with lots of friends to help eat it!) Anyway- thanks so much for the helpful postings. I believe I have found a new passion, as I find myself wandering along the fence every few days handling my babies and wondering which vines will do better, etc next season. I think we might try making wine next year! Carrie
