Hi I'm new to this so hope I get it right. I have a banana plant that is two years old, this year it has sprouted three shoots from the main trunk just below the surface of the soil (I think they are called suckers) I'm not sure what to do with them, can they be cut off and potted up as new plants, or do they need to just be removed?

You'll need to wait for them to be big enough to get roots of their own, then you can separate them if you like. Lots of people just let them turn into a grove. Also when the main stem blooms and dies, you'll want to have some pups to grow up and replace it.

Thanks for the advice, have had a look around the pups and they all have small soft roots coming off them so i,ll give them a while to grow a bit stronger and have a go at potting them on.
