Has anyone gafted mulberry cultivars ? I need some info on rootstock and the best method to graft mulberries.
I've had excellent luck using both side veneer grafts as well as budding. Last summer, I was surprised at how well chip buds were dong on mulberries so I tried doing it under extreme temps of 104 F and 30 mph dry winds. the chip buds mostly took and most pushed within a few weeks but wre tender and died back part way during winter months. Good luck!
Although rooting cuttings of mulberries is also easy, it takes an additional year to produce a top-grafted weeper, for example. Seedlings seem so readily available in our area that finding rootstocks is easy, too.
