I found a japanese maple today in a landscape, having issues with sunburn in my opinion, customer thinks it was called "yatsu... something" my opinion after looking through Vertrees book is that it is a shigatatsu sawa.. it seems to be slower growth than desired or perhaps normal, burnt etc. It is behind a wrought iron fence, on the east side of it with full exposure otherwise. In Burnaby BC. pic attached - thoughts?

    Hi Paul:

What else do you want to know other than the Maple
is Peaches and Cream? Yes, this Maple has been
exposed to the elements but not enough to really
scorch it bad yet. There is evidence of lack of
water or a missed watering but the variegation in
the leaf along with the pink overtones is normal
    for this Maples coloring.

Aside from having a little more variegation than
my plant has now due to my plant being in a warmer
climate, the Maple looks like mine does and I just
    checked it.

The more typical leaves are in the center of the
image from the URL below that are green with
some variegation. The brighter colored leaves
with the irregular shapes are the newest growth.

    Shigitatsu sawa

I beleive it to be 'Shigitatsu sawa'. The leaf segments look to broad and not divided enough for 'Peaches and Cream'. Also the serrations do not extend as long and there doesn't seem to be as much twist on the end of the leaf segments as there would be on 'Peaches and Cream'. Just my opinion. Give that sucker some shade and a drink. Here are a couple of photos of 'Peaches and Cream'.

    Hi Elmore:

Count the lobes. Peaches and Cream and Shigitatsu
    sawa have 9 lobes.

Any wonder why I prefer to stay out of the Maple
ID's? Your plant is a form of Aka Shigitatsu sawa
and there are more than one forms of it. I've seen
3 forms, not including seedling selections. Even the
image I provided of is not altogether correct for
Peaches and Cream from the original plant raised
from a Shigitatsu sawa seedling selection in Australia
    a few years ago.

Shigitatsu sawa has cupped shaped leaves and they
NEVER are disfigured in shape in the lobes. Also,
the true Japanese form of Shigitatsu sawa shows no
pink at all in the leaves during the growing season..
Remember this, notched cuts in the serration is Aka,
fine cuts are Shigitatsu sawa and Peaches and Cream.
