Hi, We have two kiwi vines that are really badly placed. The previous owner planted them, I believe they are now 9 or 10 years old. She said they were supposed to be one male, one female, but they'd never produced. Based on the flowers we saw last spring, I think they're both female. We'd love to plant a male and possibly get fruit. Unfortunately, they are growing along a basic wire fence, 5 feet tall. They're pulling the fence down, and reaching out wildly to everything around them. On one side there are three large beautiful lilacs and a rosebush, and on the other side is the access to our septic system. I can't see a way to build an appropriately large and strong trellis for their current position. Is it possible to move mature plants like this? We have plenty of other, even sunnier spaces where we could build something for them, (we have 2 acres) I just don't know if they'd survive a move. Thanks for any advice! Rose
I would start with 2 new ones. Here they grow them commercially and they run them along a similar set up to a vinyard. Maybe you could create a dividing wall in the garden using this method. Liz
