We have some cedar trees that are a hedge about 8ft tall...We are putting in a new drive way and would like to move the hedge to a different location. Can we do this? how? and can we do it this time of year

    Thanks

if you have to move them now, then move them now. if you dont have to, wait till winter abates. Dig and burlap a fairly large root ball, about 18-24 inches across and about 12 to 18 inches deep. use a shapr spade and possibly an old pruning saw as cedars (I am assuming Thuja of some sort) have a very fibrous root system that is hard to dig through. you will likely have to line them up the same way they are now to accomodate for the dead spots where there is no light penetration. after transplanting, water them appropriately (infrequent, deep waterings based on weather) and you should have a good survival rate.
