Sadly, Mountain Maples nursery has closed their doors. I called their 1 888 707 6522 telephone number and the recording confirmed such. Their message said they will be answering their phones and taking inquiries starting January 19th. This is the loss of a great resource and a great staff whom I wish the very best. I heard this only today and wanted to make sure our community was aware of this sad event.
Thanks for the info. They were unable to fill any of my orders this year, so I think its been coming for a while. Very sad indeed! I wonder what will happen to their nursery stock? Or if someone will buy them out? Isn't this the nursery Vertrees owned at one time? Can anyone give a history?
Nancy Fiers and her husband Don owned Mountain Maples. Nancy was 1 of 3 people who basically bought J D Vertrees' inventory because she had been a close acolyte of Mr Vertrees so that is probably what you are thinking about Mr Vertrees. I have no idea what will become of their fabulous inventory. As you know Nancy sadly passed 1-2 years ago.
OK, that explains the Vertrees connection. I do hope the collection and any remaining stock will be saved. Maybe a public garden would take the collection if Don can't maintain it. Very sad situation, especially since times are so tough right now.
Nancy's daughter has opened her own nursery (essence of the tree). She might have taken the inventory over. It's a sad news anyway.
Their website was a wonderful source of info as well (articles, videos, pics) - hopefully Tricia(or someone) will be able to utilize these as well. *75 days till spring
Indeed, I really liked their website - full of interesting articles -mainly for growing Maples in container! I recently bought some Phyton 27 from them, as we can't get it over here.
