    Hi,

I own a peacock plant, and was having some problems with its leaves turning brown in our dry apartment. I was told to install a pebble tray under it to increase the humidity level.

I did this, but a week later I have started to notice mould growing on the surface of the potting soil, and around the water holes in the bottom of the pot. the pot is not sitting in water, and I always make sure that at least the top inch of soil has dried out beofre water (about 8 days at the moment). I am assuming this is happening because of the increased humidity. Does any one know what I can do? I feel like I am in a catch 22 situation. Thanks in advance.

    Hi Edward,

I think you should remove the tray with the water and pebbles. Remove the moldy soil on top of the pot and replace with fresh soil. You can use a bleach solution of one part bleach to nine parts water with a Q-tip to clean the drainage hole. Provide humidity by misting the leaves. Take a look here.
