moss removal / cutting back pampas grass

Discussion in 'HortForum' started by Bob Allett, Jan 25, 2006.

  1. How can we remove heavy moss from our Italian plum tree. Also, what is the best way to cut down and reduce the size of our pampas bush. Thank you Bob

    Hello,

Regarding your pampus grass, I would come over to declump/split it for planting

as I have need for one, but beware...the grass fronds are knifelike and can cause serious cuts.

If you are able, after our last frost ...shear the tufts to 25 cm. ...it should bounce back ...but dividing the clump helps...get out your pick axe...

Another way to cut back the Pampas Grass, IF it is a good distance from the house, etc - set fire to it. Like all prairie grasses, it is well adapted to fire and won't be harmed. But be very careful about other things nearby!
