This old enemy seems to be winning. Our lawn is infested with moss. We had the whole lawn replaced several years ago, and follow the treatment that one of the well known lawn people suggest. Our garden is open, in spots, and well treed in others (cedars, mainly). Every year we gradually eat away at the lawn area, Hosta's going in by the dozen, but what next. Some areas are 75% moss, others 20%, none are free. Is there any solution? Ellis
I'm jealous, I would love to have moss rather than my tiny spotty high needs lawn. I would throw down a few stepping stones and a bench and call it good. Of course, my yard is a tiny urban lot, and I'm sure that wouldn't work if you have a wide expanse.
As much as I like the Moss in my lawn I am in the moss killing business. Just call your local lawn care company like weedman or nutrilawn and they will apply a 20% iron based moss killer application. Prices probably start about $35 for a city lot and slightly go up from there. The moss will turn black and shrivel up as the weather warms up and presto you will have no moss for the summer. You will be surprised how quickly your grass fills in those areas. Although the moss will grow back by fall and possibly you may require spring and fall applications from them, that is totally up to your preference. Moss is too easy to control, you just need the right services. Enjoy your lawn , Jim S.
