I'm wondering if it's too late to apply lime to my lawn. I can't believe the growth in the last 6 weeks and I feel if I don;'t do something now there will be no grass by the time spring rolls around. I did lime in the fall
    Thank you

Hi Borg. I live close by in south Surrey, and have tons of moss in the lawn here.

FYI, my native pH is about 6.8, with very sandy soil and the moss grows equally in full sun and any amount of shade. No supplemental water all summer.

I say this to caution you not to think lime is a silver bullet for moss.

My sense is that iron is probably more the element that will push the moss out, but again I doubt that anything works totally. Iron sulphate is the basis of some moss killers.

Fertilizing the area to encourage lawn grass or whatever else you are growing, and trying to drain winter flooded areas (I believe this interferes with the availability of iron in our soils, and is related to the hardpans we almost all seem to have below our topsoils) are two strategies that seem promising.

I lost my battle with moss years ago in my front yard a made part of it a moss garden. Some advice would be to rake it out before it flowers. Unless you use lots and lots of lime you will not change the PH enough. Good drainage and aerate as deep as possible then add sand and lime. I don't think its too late to add lime.
