    I am not good at mosses, to say the least. I suspect (in light of recent comments) that this is perhaps a Polytrichum, maybe juniperum.

    Growing on profusely on rotten wood waste in an open location in Fraser Valley BC.
    Photo taken today.

    Can anyone confirm, or correct me?

    Not seeking forensic accuracy, just a better guess than mine - please!

    Yes, it is a Polytrichum, but ID to species is difficult without a specimen in hand.

    Daniel, thanks for the reply. The photo of the day (a Polytrichum) is most timely. The link to Bio 321 - Bryology mentioned in the text is a help as well.
