    1. Solidago canadensis? - Canada Goldenrod - Is it responsible for lots of allergies, like lots of us think?
2.Cornus sericea? - Red Twig Dogwood - check the local species. I only know the left coast one.
    5. Clematis virginiana? - Old Mans beard.

    3 suggestions.

From what I have read goldenrods do not cause allergies. Their pollen is heavy and doesnt blow through the air. They are insect pollinated. Ragweed, Ambrosia artemisiifolia, which blooms at the same time as the Solidagos is responsible for autumn 'Hayfever' with its runny noses, itchy eyes and sneezing.
I grow several species of Solidago in my garden here in Ottawa and they are lovely plants which attract many insect pollinators.
