This plant started growing in my yard about two years ago and is about 4-5 ft tall now. The base of the trunk is just starting to get woody. It appears to be an evergreen and has not flowered. I think it is some type of Magnolia but I am not sure and any help would be appreciated. I am located in southern California.

Probably Magnolia grandiflora, which is quite variable and quite frequently planted - the parent tree may be visible nearby.
