I bought this aroid last week from a woman who's cleaning her garden. It was in terible condition, dry and dirty. Now it shines in my garden! What aroid is this? I believe it is one species of the subfamily monsteriodeae.
I do beleive it is a Imperial Red Philodendron .. that should get you in the right direction .. Marion
Aroideae subfamily The first time I saw the plant (blade leaves), I thought it was Philodendron 'Red Carnival' or 'Black Congo' (similar to Imperial Red). When I found that the plant has a hard stem and grow like monsteriodeae, I am not sure of what it is. The attached philo is an Imperial Red I found on the net. The only similarities they have are: color and spathe. They have different blades and totally different stems.
Re: Aroideae subfamily The attached picture shows exactly how my plant grows. Anybody knows what exactly this plant is?
The ID's appear to be correct. These hybrids originate from Philodendron erubescens and there are many different forms, shapes and colors. Many of the common hybrids date back to the 1950's. http://www.exoticrainforest.com/Philodendron erubescens pc.html
