my mother had a small tree stood maybe 4 ft. trunk smooth but limbs has fuzz or fir feeling effect, it had fern type leaves and grew a pod or cone with red seed type .
Just wondering if anyone has a clue the proper name for this tree.

More information needed. Monkey puzzle bears dark green broad sharply tipped firm scales that persist for years, one 4' tall would have little bare trunk showing yet. And young ones do not produce catkins or cones.

I dont think it is a monkey puzzle the trunk was smooth and the fir or fuz started on the smaller limbs the trunk was only about 5 inches diam I think monkey tree was only a slang name
