I have a mature Monkey Puzzle Tree in my garden, perhaps 100 years old at a guess. I want to extend my house to within one metre of its trunk and I need to find out about its rooting system. There are no building regulations to worry about only the health of the tree. Any suggestions? Currently it is a very big tree for the size of garden and I may have to fell it but I would much rather keep it if at all possible.
Sound likely to kill it, I'm afraid. Seek the advice of an International Society of Arboriculture certified arborist or two, who can come and view the site in person.
