Hi everyone, Bought a money tree 2 months ago. Its by a south facing window, watering once a week. The leaves are getting brown and falling. The leaves are also sticky, like its sweating. Can anyone help.
Does it by aby chance have scale insects? (Little brown spots that don't look like insects at all, but that's what they are?) These guys produce sticky sap and make the plant generally unwell.
How about mealy bugs? I haven't had these myself (I'm sure that's coming :) ) but it's been said on this forum that they also excrete sticky stuff. Does it look like this: http://www.mda.state.mn.us/plants/insects/plantscape/mealybugs.htm
Hi TotalAlina, it does'nt look like there's any bugs on it. Could moving it from a low dense area to full sun light cause it. Twiggy.
Has the soil ever been either very soggy, or bone dry, for any length of time? Otherwise, could it be suffering from the Credit Crunch?? ;-)
In that case I'd suspect that it got too dry and died as a result. Watering to a timed schedule isn't a good idea, it is much better to test the soil with a finger, and water when it starts to feel dryish but before it gets bone dry. That might vary from every 2 weeks in winter when it is cool and not using much water, to daily or even more often in hot summer weather (particularly in a hot south-facing window!).
