After wracking our brains for a Mother's Day gift idea for my hubby's very awesome Mom, I thought a garden makeover would knock her socks off!

(We did take her out for dinner on Friday nite, and gave her flowers... to make her think that was her gift...)

She lives about 5 minutes away from us, and they went to Vernon for the weekend to see my sis-in-law and her family. So on Sunday we went to Mom-in-law's house and completely renovated her back yard and garden! (while she was out!)
Her garden is reasonably nice-looking on a regular day, but she's been insanely busy with her work, grandkids, etc.
So we got there, there were toys everywhere, with about 5 different 'toy storage' areas. Weeds galore, including about 3 five gallon buckets full of horse-tails! Hate those things! Luckily they live beside an unkept farmer's field, who doesn't mind if weeds are thrown over the fence, so that saved us from hauling a truckload of weeds away! That alone was a makeover!
Then after all the weeding was done, I dragged my giant hosta over there 'which she compliments every time she sees it'. Cut it into pieces and planted it all over the place. Also took some nice lily plants over there.
Needless to say, by the time it was all done, her nextdoor (strata) neighbour was shocked! My hubby and I spent 3 hours non-stop working in the yard, so when it was done, I have to say, it looked pretty damn good!
I even set up her entire patio set so she's all ready for spring!

She called us last nite, and as she's on the phone she's walking outside, freaking out! Oh my gawd, and what's this, oh, and hey, that wasn't there before... We even moved some of her nice flowering trees into more noticable areas. It was worth every horsetail weed!

You moved the trees... in May? Cross your fingers.

Paulina, what a wonderful gift! Do you have before and after shots? The best shot would have been your Mom-in-laws face when she saw it, I'm glad you at least had her on the phone when she saw it :)

Yes, and they're still very much alive and flowering! And she's still very much appreciating it!!
