Re: mole problem, snakes? I, too, have been driven crazy by moles. I've tried Juicy Fruit, smoke bombs, traps, dog hair, predator urine, ground vibrators all with little to no luck. What failed the least was the smoke bomb approach. However, moles have extensive tunnels stretching across much acreage. To be truly successful (in theory), you need to have all the neighbors willing to buy a lot of bombs ($$$) and everyone needs to bomb at the same time on the same day. Further you need to bomb every mound you can find. I don't see that happening in my neighborhood. My neighbor came up with the idea of importing garden snakes as being a non-toxic echo friendly approach. Has anyone tried this and does it work? If so, what kind of snake?
Hi Winterhaven, You may find this conversation helpful. I'm thinking that you are in BC and most of these folks are in the US, many in the east. The moles in the east are different then the ones in the west. It's my understanding that in the west you have pocket gophers. You can tell where many of these folks live by clicking on 'My Page' (info may not be there) or looking at the abbreviations for their state. http://forums2.gardenweb.com/forums/load/roses/msg0308095730989.html Here's a site on pocket gophers. http://www.ipm.ucdavis.edu/PMG/PESTNOTES/pn7433.html If you don't know the state abbreviations, take a look here. You can click on the letters. http://www.growit.com/Zones/ I hope this helps. Newt
Hi I am by no means an expert on the irradication of Moles. In fact since moving into my house 4 years ago, suddenly I am aware of mounds of earth appearing around a new patio area. Each morning I find a fresh mound of earth. I have made several enquiries here in Britain and I have been told that the only way to get rid of them is by using a trap. Apparantly the Sonic device which gives off a high pitched signal only heard by the mole and the ( most humane method) will not work. Neither will chasing the tunnels with a hose either as the mole can run a lot faster than running water apparenly. Another suggestion I have been given is to keep a cat as they enjoy a tasty dawn treat of fresh mole.
I`ve been told to move moles on use jeyes fluid (1 to 20)pour down the highest runs. Also use 40 water to1 jeyes solution to form a barrier across the lawn/grass to make sure the moles move in the right direction.try for a week /10 days they should move on
