Sometimes I feel like Bill Murry in Caddyshack. He was after , what gophers? I'm on the hunt for moles. Never had them untill we put our home up for sale. Someone up above telling me something? My wife wont let me use a killing type trap so I tried some MoleMax. It's a caster oil thing. I put it down extra heavy and my results so far are poor. I think the moles just went deeper into the soil.
Tonight when I came home, my wife showed me some new tunnels. She discribed how she would step on them and within 20-30 mins, presto, the tunnel is back. OK, I had an idea. I draffted two shovels, 1 bucket, a garden hand spade, and a pair of canves gloves. After watching a small spot raise up and down(the mole re-pushing his body thru the colapised tunnel) I JAMMED 1 shovel about 8" behind where I thought it was pushing up the dirt. This to momently block an excape? Then quickly with another shovel drive that one into the dirt 2-3" in front to try and SCOOP it up and place in my waiting bucket.
Well I'm here to report, no mole. My second spade got hung up on a tree root. This I think gave the mole time to get away? So far over an hour and no activity. I think I scarred the BEE-GEE-BEES out of him. I could not find any evident or traces that I accidently got him wth the first spade. I dug down and found nothing.
I think I'm on the right track.
My question is, HOW FAST ARE THEY. IS there a link I can read up on the type of mole here in south New Jersey? will keep ya posted

The moles have tunnels around our yard, too. My dear Dad used to sit and
wait patiently for them to start moving around and working the tunnels (he
was retired and had lots of time for this!) while he waited for his chance at
them (according to him, they usually started moving around 11am). Then he
would whack them with something - shovel (?) - I can't remember, now. No
matter how many he caught, I do believe all of their relatives came back looking
for them! I've considered trying one of those devices that you plant in the
ground and it sends out a periodic vibration, which is supposed to drive them
away, but I don't want to deter the squirrels, as well. Anyway, good luck on
    your hunt!
