Identification: Mold or mushroom?

    Found these growing on the side of a fir tree near Elbe, WA.

    Scale makes it a bit hard to tell--of course, if you were able to revisit the site a day or two later, it would reveal itself. Was it about half the size of a pencil eraser?

    It was larger than that - about an inch in diameter. I guess that means it's a mushroom?
