If anyone can give me an answer to this question, I will be forever grateful. About a month ago a co-worker gave me a terra cotta pot with a few aloe vera plants in it. I noticed two weeks after I got it home that the pot itself had mold (not black mold or anything) growing on the outside of it. Well I did not think much about it, I just changed the pot to a ceramic one. Then last week I noticed that my spider plant had a thin layer of mold along the top of the potting soil and my boyfriend had bought me some Carnations, I put them in a vase and a couple of days later some of the stems had mold on them. This is a problem that I have never seen before, does anyone have an explanation of why this is happening and what I can do to prevent this? Lisa Elliott lcoltsfan@bloombb.com
sounds like there is just way too much humidity in your house. or you have overwatered the aloe and the spider. mold spores are VERY tiny and hard to get rid of - the standing water in the vase for the carnations is just about the most perfect environment for the spores to grow/mature into full-out mold.
