Identification: Mold, Fungus, Eggs? Pictures Included

    Although not what one thinks is typical of Dead-Man's Fingers (Xylaria polymorpha), the "species" is surely just one out of a larger complex. Allowing for that, I soon found another image here that is remarkably similar, particularly when compared to the many more typical examples given for the species.

    I would also like to point out that the species name of Dead-Man's Fingers, polymorpha, means 'of many forms'.
