What is the minimum growing period needed for japanese maples for the summer, more specifically the Acer Palmatum species and the atropurpureum variety?

Do Acer Palmatum seeds show provenence?

    Thank You.

Hi John, Not sure what minimum growing period is needed, but have had Japanese maple cultivars that were fine in this climate with about 3 1/2 - 4 months. Some cultivar seedlings show the parent's likeness to varying degrees. Probably lots of experience with various cultivars among other members. Hope this helps.

I would like to know that if purchased seeds from the US will be hardy to the Ottawa region (i.e: If the seeds show provenence). I know that Acer rubrum and some other Acer seeds will not grow here due to provenence (ie: the seeds have preference to the region in which they were taken and are thus not fully hardy here).

I need to know the minimum growing time needed by JMs due to my lateness in purchasing the seeds and so that I can make proper arrangements for extending the growing time in the fall (ie: greenhouse or some other enclosure).
