Hello This is my first post, hopefully it's not too tough a request. I have a lemon tree that is loosing its leaves. it does this every year, slowly through the winter until spring. It seems to do ok for the first couple months in winter. but by this point there are only a few leaves left. I worry each time that its going to die before spring. summer comes. Background: 8-9 pot (tall and wide) Soil, not sure. Miracle Grow and triple mix? Water every weekend 2-3 cups through the winter (sometimes i'll add an extra cup in the middle of the week if its been sunny) Water twice that in the summer. it sits in a south facing window from end of Fall to middle of spring Live in Toronto (Zone 6 or 5 US?) house can be dry through the winter House is 21-22º during the day 20º at night Fertilize every 2-3 weeks. Though not the right stuff for sure. I Ran out and have been using a starter with micronutrients (12-36-12) by Fafard the last 2 or 3 times I fertilized. What am I doing wrong? is there something i should do right away? Come spring/summer should I repot? Soil suggestions if so? Any help is greatly appreciated.
I have a lemon tree I started from seed from a grocery store lemon. Yes I realize it may never fruit, but that's OK because the leaves are beautifully scented when crushed. I grew it for fun, just to say I started a lemon tree from seed. LOL It stays inside the house year round, in a south facing window. My tree is about 5 years old now and every winter it drops leaves. And then each Spring it grows new ones. It's not fun watching your tree lose leaves, but from my experience it seems pretty normal. I wouldn't worry too much, unless it gets attacked by spider mites. Does it have some fat, dormant buds along the stems?
