Hello all, If you wouldn't mind, I'd like some advice on how to care for my miniature potted Japanese Maple. My sister has the same variant, bought at the same time and hers is doing just fine! The leaves are looking ripped, "eaten" and shrivelled in places (see attached images). It is in our south facing garden which gets a lot of sunlight, so i've put it into the shade for now to see if it makes a difference. Might there be some other reason that this is happening? This is literally the first plant we've got in our garden...and I want it to do well! Thanks for reading.
It doesn't look too bad to me It might have been dried up a little with the recent warm sun we have been having. Keep it watered as it is in a pot (maybe twice a week?)
If your sister's plant looks better than yours, it's worth checking to see what details might be different about the location, watering scheme, or anything else between the two of you. All plants are sensitive and responsive to their environments, young plants especially so. A couple of days without water in hot sun can cause a marked change in appearance. But the other side of this coin is that plants are, so to speak, self-repairing. Once they get established in their new home they tend to perk up. As in sports, there's always next year to look forward to.
