We have a wonderful Meyer lemon tree growing -- the fruit and juice is pretty good -- but the rinds of the lemons smell like chemicals. We thought perhaps they needed to ripen more, but that doesn't seem to be the case. I really would love to be able to use the rinds, but they have a horrible taste, almost as if they were toxic. Any ideas about what might be happening?

    Maybe they absorbed air pollution??

Our area isn't terribly polluted, and the other citrus trees seem fine, including a very small dwarf lemon tree.
