Hello, I'm new to the forum 'and' new to gardening. Just a quick question. On the advice of a friend I used 'Confidor' a commercial pestacide on my Meyer Lemon. Unfortunately, it didn't stop the scale or sooty mold. I was fairly reluctant to use the spray so perhaps I didn't use it liberally enough. Anyhow, I've since washed away the sooty mold and have treated the tree with 'white oil'. My question is... Is the fruit still okay to eat? It looks good. The Confidor treatment was several months ago now. Thanks in anticipation Lemon Lover
Confidor is a rather safe insecticide with a very short half life. However, Confidor is currently not labeled for use on citrus, but is labeled for use on other food crops and various ornamentals, trees, vegetables and fruits such as apples, tomatoes, egg plant, potatoes, and cucumbers. The required withholding period shown of the label after spraying a food crop with Confidor, until the crop can be harvested and sold for consumption, is only 3 to 7 days depending on the particular food crop being sprayed. For apples there is no withholding period at all. It has now been two months since you sprayed your lemons with Confidor. Seaking for myself, if it was my tree, I would not have the least worry about any chemical residue still remaining, and I would have felt free to eat the fruit long ago. - Millet
lemon lover. Millets pretty good in dealing with insecticides. In the past I emailed him about a product that was recommonded by a knowledgable citrus grower to remove scale. Millet sugguest to me not use this product ( I don't recall the name) which I never used. I don't always agree with Millet. But he will not misguide you in your above posting. Best of Luck.
