    Hello Forum:

Your knowledge on citrus is greatly appreciated. My meyer lemon has lost all but two leaves, and has just begun to sprout new growth. Will I see blooms at all this year? And I am wondering, should I repot it?

KBaron, Meyer Lemon is the most grown variety of containerized citrus, and produce lots of wonderful fruit. The tree requires a little extra care, but it is one of my favorite citrus to grow. It is very good news that your tree has started to flush new foliage. Citrus always produce fruit on the NEW growth. Therefore, luckily, because your tree has started its leaf flush this early in the spring, the chances of blooming this season are excellent. If it has been over a year, since you last transplanted the tree you will need to do so. However, I would not transplant the tree until the growth flush and bloom has completed. Port Moody BC is a really great town. You are lucky to live in such a nice place. Have, you ever eaten at the Boathouse Restaurant down on the water? Good luck to you and your Meyer Lemon. - Millet

Thank you Millet, Last fall I harvested 10 lemons from the tiny tree. Should I plant the tree in the ground? I have SW exposure and a concrete wall to plant against...at 9 metres elevation. Incidentally,I have dined at all the lower mainland Boathouse locations, except the new one in Port Moody!

Yes, with a little extra care you can plant your Meyer Lemon in the ground in Port Moody, especially in the particular SW location that you posted. You should visit with Greg N, a member of this citrus forum. Greg lives just across the water in North Vancouver, and has a rather large citrus collection, with many citrus growing in the ground. One of Greg's in ground trees is a Meyer Lemon. I'm sure he could offer you some good advice. - Best of Luck. - Millet
