I just bought a Mexican Lime tree and I'm wondering if I should plant it in the ground or in a pot (it's about 3' tall). I live in Simi Valley, California, which is at maybe 800 ft. above sea level.
I am brand new at this so I guess I'm being pretty parnoid! But I figure all the advice out there is better than what I know about this!

I am not familiar with yor climate there, but key limes are one of the most sensitive to cold-- if you do not have freezes you are probably OK, otherwise it will need protection when it freezes if planted outside. They do well in containers.

I live in texas and have mine in a 5-6 gallon clay pot with river rocks and shale at the bottom for drainage. i doesn't get nearly as cold down here but in any case the garge or a sheet would protect her just fine. What do you use for fertilizer or nutes?

For my container citrus I use slow release Osmocote 19-6-12, it does not have trace minerals so I add that separately.

    Hello Houston Texas,
I still have mine in the pot I got it in from Costco's! They had already sprinkled dry fertilizer which last awhile, I'm not sure what kind to use yet. Sounds like you need to take cover with Dolly coming your way, Take care and be safe
