Mexican and California Fan Palms

Discussion in 'Outdoor Tropicals' started by Unregistered, Oct 19, 2005.

  1. Hi all,

Does anyone know of any Washingtonia Robusta (Mexican Fan) or Washingtonia Filfera (California Fan) that have survived around here? (Pacific Northwest, more specifically, Vancouver Island).

I experimented with germinating them and I now have 50-75 of each that are approx. 6 inches tall.

    Any tips or insight?

    Thanks

    April

They freeze out. One near me still exists because it is next to a huge vent that apparently gets it through the winter. Unwary people plant both Washingtonia and Trachycarpus, end up with just Trachycarpus.
