i thought i had correctly identified my tree as a locust, but then the guy from our local nursery came out and told me it was a mesquite. He only closely looked at one but there are three in my yard. They all have something a little different about them so im not sure if i have three types of mesquites or not any. i have tried searching the net and its not a screwbean mesquite. That one is the easiest to identify. The first photo is from the tree he said was a mesquite. the other two are ones im not sure of. Any help is appreciated. Thanks
Hopefully the tree people will be along sometime Meanwhile http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mesquite Pictures http://images.google.com.au/images?...&sa=X&oi=image_result_group&ct=title&resnum=4 Liz
Looks like Velvet Mesquite (Prosopis velutina) to me. http://fireflyforest.net/images/firefly/2006/January/velvet-mesquite-beans-2.jpg
Ok i think the second one is a honey mesquite. But what about the other two. the pods on the third photo never turn red. So does that mean its not a honey mesquite?
On the third photo the seeds hang in clumps of 5 or more all over the tree. As with the first photo they hang alone.
